Aston Martin - 1975 V8 outer rocker replacement and A pillar repair

This car was purchased several months ago by one of our customers. Being very aware of the typical symptoms associated with the Aston's of this era, he was expecting an intensive sill and rocker replacement. He brought this car to us to evaluate and make a judgment on how extensive the work was going to be.

Upon diagnosis we found several areas that needed to be addressed, but we were amazed when we discovered that the sills were in remarkable shape and in needed little or no attention. The rocker on the driver's side was in poor shape and had been a victim of moisture and other deposits that contributed to its deterioration.

We found that once we had made the needed incisions in the body paneling to repair the rocker panel, there was considerable damage from rust to the A pillar. After informing the customer about the discovery we went to work cutting away the bad areas to repair the damage.

Once we had the A pillar repaired we then had to move to getting the sill area treated to preserve what had survived all of these years. We cleaned the sill surface to allow proper conditions for welding later in this project.

We then went into the sills and made small holes to allow our non acidic rust converter to go to work. After making the holes we treated the inside of the sill and allowed all of the moisture to evaporate. This ensured that before we applied paint to the inside of the sill we had all of the rust knocked out of the way. Once the paint was applied we were ready to seal things back up.

Once we welded the hole closed it was time to treat the sill in preparation for attaching the new rocker. We coated it with a zinc rich primer that can be welded through. This will give us a good base to apply the other paints that will help seal the original metal.

We even put a special sealant over the welded drill holes.

Once we had the sill fully treated we put a high gloss sealing paint on both the inside of the new rocker as well as the outside of the sill. We were careful to get just the areas that would not be affected by the high temperatures of welding.

You can see the a-pillar now repaired on the left side.

The a-pillar replaced on the right side.

We will be deleting the side markers, front and rear.

As we get it ready for paint we are repairing some previous poor repairs (removing excessive body filler and repairing the metal )
